Conspector was appointed to refurbish existing external timber sash windows as part of ongoing hotel maintenance and improvement works. The existing windows showed signs of weathering, flaking paint and deterioration to the timber surfaces and surrounding frame interfaces.
The works included careful preparation of the existing timber frames, glazing bars and sills, with loose and deteriorated paint removed, surfaces mechanically sanded, and minor cracks and imperfections filled using exterior-grade wood filler. Bare timber areas were primed using Zinsser Cover Stain Primer, followed by a full undercoat and a Dulux Trade Weathershield exterior high-gloss finish in Pure Brilliant White.
As part of the works, loose and deteriorated historic bedding/mastic between the timber window frames and sandstone surrounds was carefully removed and reinstated using a traditional-style oil/sand mastic compound to match the existing appearance as closely as reasonably practicable. Final inspection, photographic reporting and clean-down carried out on completion.
